History and Highlights
Government Medical College & Hospital, Omandurar
Government Estate is the first Government Medical
College in Chennai District after the Colonial British Era.
Our college was established in 2015 as a public educational institute, by the State Government of Tamil Nadu to provide higher & quality education to build a career in the field of Medical Sciences. It was approved and recognized by the reputed National Medical Council of India (NMC) and is affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai


The Campus
- Our Omandurar Government Estate is located in the heart of the capital city of Chennai, a few hundred meters from Marina Beach, along the Bay of Bengal.
- It is flanked by famous & historical landmarks likeChepauk M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Kalaivanar Arangam, New State Guest House, Tamil Nadu Tourism Department and several monuments of Triplicane.
- The college is easily accessible by all modes of land transports. The Government Estate Metro Station, Chepauk MRTS Railway Station, Government Estate Bus Stand are within a vicinity of 1 km.
- The Medical College & Hospital functioning from the B - Block of Government Omandurar Estate, Wallajah road, Triplicane, Chennai -2 spreads over 78,849 sq. meter. with seven Tower buildings. The hospital functions from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Towers, the Medical college from 4th and 5th Towers. The 6th and 7th Towers houses women’s and men’s hostel along with faculty quarters.

The college since its inception in 2015 admits 100 MBBS Undergraduate students per year and has expanded to various speciality Postgraduate courses – MD / MS in fields of Internal Medicine, Paediatric Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, with other paramedical courses like DMLT, DRDT, B.Sc-Physician Assistant, certificate courses for Anaesthesia technicians and Theatre technicians. As per NMC guidelines,competency based under graduate curriculum is implemented providing high standard, quality medical professional education to develop a compassionate, analytical, skillful medical graduate to deliver health care needs of the community.
