The student council members of Omandurar Medical College take charge officially every academic year. Student council is the voice of the students.

Central Library is situated on the Ground and First Floor of the Medical College Building. There are more than 7000 Books including standard textbooks and reference books of all Subjects of Medical sciences and Allied health sciences.

Journal Room – National and International Journals of various specialties which are subscribed regularly and available for reference for Post Graduates and Faculty.

Mindful of the need to access maximum knowledge in the quickest time by utilizing modern technology, we have computers with a broadband connection and access to worldwide versatile E-journals (E-Library).

We also have a separate reading room for students carrying their study material which is open beyond library hours.

It also has a syndicate space where faculty reading and discussions happen

Lecture Halls

5 lecture halls which are fully air-conditioned and equipped with audio-visual aids and digital equipment making lectures, seminars, symposiums,Quiz programs, and discussions provoke interactive and vivid learning. Continuing Medical Education programs (CME), State and National conferences, and workshops are also routinely conducted by all departments with enthusiastic participation from the students.

To enhance clinical skill and its application to solve clinical problems, a well-structured and adequately equipped skills lab with models and mannequins is present in the college. Guided by the clinical skill demonstrators (facilitator) students meet the learning objectives through Small group demonstration and skill performance.

Hostels, Playground and Gymnasium

Our college also has fully functioning, well-maintained Hostels for boys and girls, Students-run mess and a canteen

To enhance the physical and mental fitness of the students a large open air play ground is freely available to all our students and they canengage in various sports activities.

Available facilities in GMC,OGE college ground are

with proper requirements for all Sports. Separate gyms is also available for boys and girls.

Students are trained under various activities recommended by NMC as per CBME curriculum. In Poonamallee RHTC, students are trained in NCD
related activities, School health visits under RBSK programme and collection and reporting of vital statistics. In Soranchery RHTC, the focus is on Primary level of Health care by allowing Subcentre visits and also visit to
Anganwadi centres.

In Kollumedu RHTC, the thrust area is on environment wherein the students are trained in Vector Borne disease control activities, Exposure to Safe water
supply and basic sanitation activities.

In the Urban Health Training Centre, MCH related learning activities are focussed which includes training on family planning methods and immunization sessions.

In addition to these activities, students are also trained
in Family Adoption Programme mandated by NMC. Students will be trained in General and Health survey in Phase I and will be taught to provide individualised health education after identifying specific disease/ill health.
Nutritional status assessment will be covered in Phase II and will be trained to comprehend the inter-play between various factors like socioeconomic status and nutritional status in the causation of diseases. In Phase III, the focus will be shifted to Environmental assessment and they will be actively involved in healthcare delivery as the first contact physician.

examples of our students,we regularly conduct Gold medal exams in various Departments and reward them at appropriate times with Endowment medals, certificates and awards.

Guidance & Counselling

The MaNaM programme is a government initiative programme running successfully in the College, since 10th September 2022. We have an Enforcement Committee chaired by the Dean and Vice Principal, with the Head of the Department of Psychiatry as Convener, and the committee meets periodically. We also have student Ambassadors for each batch of students. The undergraduate, postgraduate, and Paramedical students are regularly educated by our Assistant Professors and the peer ambassadors are motivated to  reach-out to their friends displaying any signs of psychological distress. The Omandurar MaNaM helpline 7200357307 is manned round the clock by the duty psychiatrists and other Medical officers belonging to the Helpline team. Students are also sensitised weekly once in batches about the various symptoms of stress / depression and various mental illnesses. They are also motivated to reach out for help when in need.

Mentorship

To enhance students academic performance and attendance , to identify and understand the plight of slow learners and encourage advanced learners, students are segregated as small groups and assigned separate mentors each year.

The system is created to augment student-centric teaching and development. Our mentors offer guidance and counselling as and when required.

Hostel Mess council

A robust hostel mess council manages all the needs of residents with good quality food, at a reasonable cost, pleasant stay arrangements and adequate recreation facilities,both indoor & outdoor.

Anti ragging committee

Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in the college and outside the campus.A vigilant Antiragging committee and anti ragging squad are available throughout the year to curb the menace of Ragging

VISAKA COMMITTEE

Our college has a fully functional visaka committee for protection and well being of our female staffs and students. It is headed by our Dean sir and Vice principal madam

HOSPITAL CAMPUS

Our Hospital was established in 2015 as a 750 bedded hospital with intensive care units for Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics , Ortho specialities etc,Tamil Nadu Accidents and Emergency Initiative (TAEI) ward unit with advanced life care support, well equipped operation theatres for attending all emergency cases on an immediate basis.

There are around 1000 health care professionals including Doctors/Nurses & paramedical staffs providing round the clock services.
The students are given adequate training in clinical knowledge and skill through clinical postings every day.

People from all strata of society looking up for affordable and quality healthcare are rendered best treatment through our 24x7x365 outpatient, inpatient and emergency services with upcoming state of the art facilities.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatric and Neonatal services are functioning from the associated Kasturi bai Gandhi hospital campus.
Our college is currently in the process of NABH Accreditation

Our college played a vital role in the recovery of thousands of Covid patients and also has significant vaccination coverage during the Covid period. Yoga and naturopathy lifestyle clinic, Makalai Thedi Maruthuvam (MTM) clinic delivers comprehensive care which includes concurrent prevention and management of multiple physical, emotional and mental health problems of patients.

Our hospital is also well equipped with a 24-hour central laboratory, for rendering standard quality diagnostic services to patients, and for their treatment.
